Cranfield University CDS at the Defence Academy of the UK at Shrivenham uses Command PE from Matrix Games for Defence Modelling and Simulation Education.
Matrix Games is supporting Cranfield University’s Simulation and Synthetic Environment Laboratory (SSEL) at The Defence Academy of the UK at Shrivenham, by making licences of Command Professional Edition (Command PE) available to support their Modelling and Simulation (M&S) educational activities and courses.
The first use of Command PE will be in the 5-week Simulation Employment Training (SimET) Course for M&S practitioners in September 2021. The MSc courses in Defence Simulation and Modelling (DSM MSc) and Military Operational Research (MOR MSc) are also expected to use the tools later in the new academic year.
Jonathan Searle, Head of the Modelling and Simulation Group said: "In our courses we teach a wide variety of students, both MOD and others, about a wide variety of applications of Modelling and Simulation in Defence, so it’s important that students are given the chance to see, use and understand tools and applications that are representative of the state of the art in our discipline. Our students need to understand not just how to operate the tools, but also about the broader issues of the time and effort needed to configure them, prepare their supporting data and conduct analysis of the output data The crossover between commercial computer games technologies and professional defence simulation tools is an increasingly important one, so we’re very grateful to Matrix for allowing us to make use of Command PE in our educational activities.”
Iain McNeil, Director of Matrix Games Pro Software expressed his satisfaction with this partnership: “We’re investing for the long term, by providing our software to a key education institution with the goal of training the next generation of simulation engineers to enable them to use the latest wargaming technologies. The revolution of digital wargaming is only possible if we have researchers and analysts with the awareness and competence to master its fundamental values”.
